SE Special Education and Related Services: Establishing Connections through Collaborative Goal Writing
January 22, 2025 at Southeast Arkansas Education Cooperative
Collaboration is an evidence-based and High Leverage Practice (McLeskey et al., 2019) and essential to ensuring student’s needs are met. As part of developing an IEP, team members must determine the student’s critical needs and develop goals based on those identified needs. Writing goals collaboratively, is a way IEP teams can leverage their collective expertise and value of related services to support a student’s needs in the school setting (Arner et al., 2022). In this session, we will explore collaborative goal writing, progress monitoring strategies, and apply concepts to anchor learning.
Objectives:
-Understand the benefits of wrap around services to collaboratively meet the needs of students.
-Identify parts of a goal
-Apply collaborative goal writing practices to co-construct a goal
-Participants will need to bring a device with internet access and a redacted (all identifying information completely removed) IEP for personal reflection (not sharing).

Great Director and TCC Conference at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute! We had the privilege of diving into the latest information that will shape the future of education. Not only did we hear updates from AAEA and the DESE Leadership team, but we also learned from the wealth of knowledge in the room when all of the education cooperative directors and teacher center coordinators discussed key initiatives. A special shoutout to SEARK Director Dr. Nathan White and Assistant Director/TCC Emilee Dutton for representing our team in these important discussions.
We can’t wait to put what we’ve learned into action and continue making a positive impact for our students and schools!

We had a productive meeting with our local school tech coordinators yesterday! We had insightful discussions about Act 504 and Act 846 with Jeff Killingsworth from DESE and Krissy Cross from DIS about fortifying our Cybersecurity posture to protect our students and staff. Plus, we discovered free resources to help implement these acts and explored upcoming training opportunities. Thanks to everyone for their valuable contributions! #ServicebeginswithSE #SEARKserves

In a thrilling display of digital prowess, students from across Southeastern Arkansas converged for an intense Cybersecurity Capture the Flag competition! This event challenged 11 middle school and 11 high school teams to uncover and secure "digital flags" through a gauntlet of complex tasks. Participants showcased their expertise in programming, networking, cryptography, reverse engineering, forensics, and other cutting-edge tech skills.
Emerging victorious from this battle of wits were the brilliant minds from Lake Village, claiming the top spot. Hot on their heels, the team from Fordyce secured an impressive second place, while Drew Central's tech savants rounded out the top three. This competition not only tested the students' abilities but also highlighted the region's growing talent in the critical field of Computer Science.
Thank you to our sponsors for helping make this happen!!

Last week, eight Agriculture teachers and one Construction teacher took part in an engaging CNC machining workshop. They acquired valuable skills through hands-on training, which covered fundamental concepts, practical techniques, and essential safety protocols. This workshop not only prepared them to confidently operate and use ShopBot equipment but also equipped them with the knowledge to teach students and help them achieve ShopBot certifications.
